Oberammergau is a village in the Alps of Bavaria, Germany, to the southwest of Munich. Tourism is the main source of income. A center of woodcarving since the middle ages. Oberammergau is best known for it's passion play, which is produced every 10 years. Villagers enact the suffering and death of Jesus Christ in fulfillment of a creed made when the village was spared during a plague in 1633. First performed in 1634, the play is now produced in the fall of decimal years.
